Intraperitoneal Administration of Short-Chain Fatty Acids Improves Lipid Metabolism of Long–Evans Rats in a Sex-Specific Manner

چکیده

Short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) are microbial metabolites, mainly generated by the action of gut microbiota on dietary fibers. Acetate, propionate, and butyrate three main SCFAs produced typically in a 60:20:20 molar ratio colon. butyrate, when given individually as supplements, have shown protective role obesity hyperglycemia; however, sex-specific effects mixture SCFAs, ratio, regulation lipid metabolism profile not known. Male female Long–Evans rats were (acetate, butyrate; 60:20:20) each day for seven days intraperitoneally; plasma hepatic lipids, gene expression, lipidomics analyzed. significantly decreased triglycerides cholesterol males, whereas acyl composition cholesteryl esters, triglycerides, phospholipids was modulated females. mRNA expression acetyl-CoA carboxylase-1 both males Our findings demonstrate first time that (60:20:20) improved levels manner may provide cardio-protective anti-inflammatory sexes, via independent mechanisms.

Branched short-chain fatty acids modulate glucose and lipid metabolism in primary adipocytes

Short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), e.g. acetic acid, propionic acid and butyric acid, generated through colonic fermentation of dietary fibers, have been shown to reach the systemic circulation at micromolar concentrations. Moreover, SCFAs have been conferred anti-obesity properties in both animal models and human subjects. Branched SCFAs (BSCFAs), e.g., isobutyric and isovaleric acid, are genera...

Fatty acids, lipid metabolism and Alzheimer pathology.

Alzheimer's disease is the most common form of dementia in the elderly. The cause of Alzheimer's disease is still unknown and there is no cure for the disease yet despite 100 years of extensive research. Cardiovascular risk factors such as high serum cholesterol, presence of the Apolipoprotein epsilon4 (APOE epsilon4) allele and hypertension, play important roles in the development of Alzheimer...
